Business Development Manager - Darlington

Salary: £30,000 plus uncapped commission

We have been asked to support them by helping them recruit a talented salesperson that can go out and engage prospects and help the organisation in the next phase of growth.

The Role

In a nutshell, your role will be find and win new customers through lead generation, business networking, social media, engagement by telephone, remote meetings, face to face meetings and demonstrations.


A consultative approach is vital and you will need to be able to ascertain and understand a prospects challenges and problems and relate them to our client’s capabilities to provide solutions deliver real value.


Our client will provide full training and mentoring in their product, technology, and business benefits in order to equip you with the tools you need to be successful.

About You

Our most important requirement is that you are the sort of person who rolls up their sleeves and gets stuck in with a smile. ​ Passionate about selling but more passionate about being honest successful and making a difference.

You will be the sort of person that loves to be part of a secure, growing, friendly, fun and flexible team and able to work under pressure and hold yourself to account. You will have excellent communication skills you never tell a customer what they want to hear. You only ever tell the truth and manage expectations brilliantly.


  • An understanding of the software or IT industry

  • The acumen required to understand a customers’ problems and challenges and relate those to solutions our client can provide

  • The ability to work and sell with minimal support from Management (after plenty of support)

  • The ability to generate a solid pipeline of prospects

  • The discipline to record activity and forecast business

  • Capability to qualify, quantify and report your numbers

  • The understanding when to “do a deal” and when to walk away

  • The ability to “close” business

  • Customer management skills that builds relationship, for the customer, for our client and for you

Nice to Have

  • Team ethics and attitude, we are a strong and growing team and you will be a key part of that team

  • Knowledge of existing customer accounts and time already spent in the industry

  • 1 – 2 years of software / technical sales would be beneficial

  • Ability to liaise between a technical team and customers to “bridge the communication” gap
